WHO WE ARE
I am Dr. Kalpesh S. Malik, a practising Heart Surgeon since 2000 A.D. I have been associated with and personally operated more than 8000 cardiac surgeries till date. I have operated both adult as well as children with cardiac diseases. As I dealt with more and more patients, I realised a few things:-
(1) Not all adult cardiac diseases have Cholesterol as the cause.
(2) If 90% of the Cholesterol present in the body is manufactured in the liver, how is it harmful?
(3) For management of diseases as well as general fitness and also extreme sports fitness, only medications are not the answer. A good customised diet plan plus a good exercise regimen works wonders for your health and can bring down your requirements of medications, most of which you might not even require at a later stage.
(4) Diabetes mellitus type II, Hypertension (high BP), Osteoporosis (weak bones in old age) as well as Osteoarthritis are lifestyle related ailments. A sound nutrition based diet along with a proper exercise plan can control these problems to a large extent and sometimes, even reverse them.
(5) Most of the Bypass surgery patients are scared to venture back into their normal lifestyle. With good diet and proper exercise advise, they can quickly attain their normal life. It is my endeavour that every cardiac patient should be living a healthy life full of vitality and vigour.
Now, this is about the medical field. I have been into fitness since a long time, so long that I can’t remember. Like most other people, I thought that performing a certain set of exercises daily can bring about dramatic results in my physique. I used to exercise daily and eat a lot of proteins and huge quantities of carbohydrates and fats. I used to eat a lot of junk food thinking that as I am exercising, most of this food is going to my muscles. I gradually gained a lot of fat, though with significant increases in strength too. My friends used to appreciate my arms size but, at the same time, used to make fun about my huge belly. Mind you, my waist size a year back was 37 inches. Then, one fine day, I started to wonder where am I going wrong. I was very strong in mathematics in my school days. I realised that if I have to loose fat in a quantitative way, i.e. a certain number of kilograms of fat loss, then, I should be eating a certain amount of carbohydrates, proteins and fats and in a particular ratio. That is when I put my thoughts into action. First thing I did is I started studying again and did these two certifications:
(1) INTERNATIONAL SPORTS SCIENCES ASSOCIATION, US & CANADA certified SPORTS NUTRITIONIST.
(2) INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF BODYBUILDING, UK & EUROPE certified ADVANCED BODYBUILDER AND MASTER TRAINER COURSE.
After finishing these two courses, I hit upon the idea of QUANTIFIED NUTRITION. Eating a certain ratio of carbohydrates, proteins and fats in particular quantities can rapidly bring about body transformation. After all, we are what we eat. I brought in all the principles whatever I had learnt in my medical college and so many years of practice. Here, again I would like to emphasise these very important points:-
***After finishing these two courses, I realised that:-
(1) Medical Doctors are very poor when it comes to nutritional principles. Even I used to think before that I am an expert in nutrition, but, after acquiring this knowledge only I felt complete and could treat my patients in a better way.
(2) Dieticians give you a pre formed diet. They will tell you these foods are better in proteins of carbohydrates or fats. But, I have yet to come across a dietician who can tell you the exact quantities of these nutrients in your diet.
(3) We have all been imbibed since childhood about certain fixed ideas that fat is bad for health. I say that even excess carbohydrates or proteins is bad. By the word excess, I mean that more than your daily requirements. All fats are not bad.
(4) Your body’s metabolism ie how it burns up your calories and how it uses each of these nutrients is dependent upon three things:-
– Your activity level including the type of exercise done.
– Your fat free lean body mass of the body.
-Your hormones.
Through quantified diet and proper insertion of customised exercises into your daily schedule, all these above things can be modified to suit your goals. That is exactly what I mean by QUANTIFIED NUTRITION.
***Also, since I have been intimately associated with Gymnasiums and trainers and all sorts of supplements, I have been able to accurately determine what are the shortcomings in the world of fitness. Let me explain this to you by the following points:-
(1) Most of the trainers in the gym are non-certified. They learn from their seniors who are themselves non-certified. Most of their efforts towards making you fit are a ‘Hit-or-Miss’ affair. You might succeed or you might not. Some of them are certified trainers but, their certifications usually involve exercises. They are unaware of the hormonal changes in the body as a result of exercises and also unaware about the nutritional aspects of fitness.
(2) Most of the dieticians in the gymnasiums are not experienced in fitness nutrition or sports nutrition. As a result, the diet what they give to the clients are not quantified or customised according to the client’s body. Every human being has a unique body as regarding height, weight, body fat percentage, daily activity level, food preferences etc. The diet should be tailor-made for each client and not a general diet that is applicable to all.
(3) Most of the diets prescribed by dieticians are weight loss diets. These diets initially cause water loss, then muscle loss and if you are very lucky, little bit of fat loss as well.
(4) The trainers or the dieticians don’t tell you or are unaware that the supplements prescribed by them i.e. protein powders, creatine, bcaa etc. are ‘SUPPLEMENTS’ and the word ‘SUPPLEMENT’ means a supplement to the diet taken. Supplements are used as additives to the diet. They cannot replace your diet.
(5) Most of the exercises prescribed to you in the gymnasiums are taken from body-building magazines and internet. They are the workout schedules of big bodybuilders who are on high doses of Anabolic Steroids and Growth Hormones. These principles are not applicable to people who train without these Chemical Additives in a natural way.
***All said and done, it is my endeavour to bring to you the correct principles of fitness incorporating all the fundamentals of Medicine, Nutrition and correct Work-out plans. I would like to summarise my successful experiences both on myself as well as my clients:-
(1) Nutrition in quantified.
(2) I go for ‘TARGETTED FAT LOSS’, not ‘WEIGHT LOSS’. Body weight is not important. Body composition is important. When you loose fat and build muscles, your body weight might actually increase but, you will look leaner. Muscle is heavier than fat. As your body composition changes, so does your metabolism and your body hormones. You will actually look younger and feel younger naturally. You will feel as if your age has reversed.
(3) You need not spend hours in the gym to get your dream body. Half hour three times in a week is more than enough to realise your top fitness level. But, then exercise schedules cannot be generalised. Each person is unique and his/her needs are different.
(4) You don’t need many supplements to achieve your dream body. It will be my effort to acquire whatever I can from your diet itself. But, if your daily nutritional requirements cannot be met based on your food preferences, then and then only will we go for supplements. But, as I said, it purely depends on your goals. If you are a sports person or a bodybuilder, then you might need supplements. Please note that I used the words ‘MIGHT NEED’, not ‘WILL NEED’.
***Let us now move on to the sports section. There are basically three kinds of physical sports:-
(1) Power Sports, such as weight lifting, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw, long jump, high jump, sprint etc.
(2) Endurance Sports which need stamina such as marathons, long distance cycling, long distance swimming etc.
(3) Combination of the above two such as tennis, football, hockey etc.
You can see that each of these sports are very different in nature. Their intensities are different and hence, very obviously their nutritional requirements and their training plans will also be different. THE SCIENTIFIT will bring to you the correct training plans for these sports persons to help you achieve your fullest potential.
***THE SCIENTIFIT is committed for the following agenda:-
(1) Fat loss in morbid obesity.
(2) Providing fitness training and nutrition depending upon your target i.e. loosing fat, building muscle, body transformation etc.
